Molar (tooth)

The molars are located at the back of the mouth. In the primary (child) dentition there are 8 molars (4 maxillary and 4 mandibular). In the permanent (adult) dentition there are 12 molars (6 maxillary and 6 mandibular). Their primary role is to crush and chew food before swallowing.
